  1. We believe that our patients and employees must understand that as a Catholic hospital, we operate within the Ethics and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare, which directs the moral and ethical existence of the institution.
  2. We believe that informed participation in decision making is integral to the patient's plan of care.

Dignity

  1. We believe that every patient has a right to be treated with respect and dignity regardless of age, sex, race, color, national origin or ability to pay. We believe that every patient has a right to personal privacy and confidentiality of information.
  2. We believe in an organizational culture that will foster communication and creativity so as to achieve the highest level of quality patient care.

Advocacy

  1. We believe that we must advocate for a comprehensive continuum of health care. We believe that we must assess and provide for the health care needs in the areas of prevention, acute care, rehabilitation and community service, thereby providing reasonable access to care.

Excellence

  1. We believe that to ensure excellence, we must be accountable for providing the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of care. We believe that nursing research should be conducted to enhance this process.
  2. We believe that education is vital to quality patient care. We support an environment of excellence by providing educational opportunities for employees and affiliated students. We believe that the provision of education to patients enhances the health of the community.

Caring

  1. Within an environment of caring, we believe that nursing care is the essence of quality patient care. We believe that nursing care is best provided within the framework of the nursing process. We believe this is best implemented and evaluated through compliance with established standards of patient care, nursing practice and performance.

Integrity

  1. We believe that the recognition of integrity, mutual respect, and open communication among colleagues expresses the value that patient needs are multidimensional and should remain the focus of concern for all caregivers.
  2. We believe that the recognition of the patient's values and belief system, as articulated by the patient or his/her designated representative, are brought into consideration in the designing of the patient's plan of care.
